Tokyo is really famous for the complicated transportation system. Sometimes even Japanese people sightseeing Tokyo can’t figure out how to buy tickets and transfer trains.
But if you have a PASMO/SUICA card, you can deal with almost any money transaction including transferring for trains and buses - even shopping!!
How to buy PASMO/SUICA
The third picture below is a ticket-vending machine. You can get to the screen for purchasing by pushing the “PASMO” button (see picture on the right).
You can get a SUICA card at a Ticket reservation office called “Midori-no-Madoguchi (みどりの窓口)” or at a ticket-vending machine (see picture below)
A PASMO/SUICA card is 500 yen (5 dollars) to buy.

You can change the language to English, so no worries if you can’t read Japanese.
How To Use It
1) Charge your PASMO/SUICA card with money at a ticket-vending machine.
2) Scan the card on the screen attached to the ticket wicket when you go through.
3) Charge your card when your card is out of cash
Scan Examples
If you succeed in scanning the card on the screen, the screen turns Blue.
If you fail to scan the card on the screen, the screen turns Red - making a noise; this could either mean that you didn’t scan it right or that your card is out of money.
Reimbursement
When you no longer need a PASMO/ SUICA card, you can get a refund of your charged money plus 500 yen you paid to buy the card
*There will be a 210yen commission fee subtracted from your refund.
These PASMO/SUICA cards will definitely make your trip much more convenient!!!
