The other day on July 7th 2012, a total of nine tourists and students of a Japanese language school experienced a FindJPN activity called “Shopping and Tea Party with Gothic, Lolita, and Punks” hosted by a group called the “Gothic & Lolita & Punk Club (GLP), which is a gathering of lovers of Lolita and gothic fashion. From GLP, a whopping number of 15 people came to the event!
After meeting up at Harajuku station, we strolled down the streets going to “La forre” Harajyuku and other Gothic/Lolita stores chit chatting the whole way.
Before the event came to an end, we sat down for some tea at a café the members of GLP frequently visit. The visitors looked like they were getting along really well with the GLP members – no surprise, though, because a lot of them coming to learn Japanese are interested in the country’s music and fashion!
As we had some hot soothing tea, I had a chance to ask some of the tourists and students how they felt about the event. Here are some of the things they said:
“I’ve never really had the chance to speak to Japanese people outside my [language] school, so I’m really happy I got to talk with such interesting people!”
“I’m very pleased that I got to go to so many cute stores in “La forre””
“I liked that I got to see what the young in Japan are into these days in person”
“It was great that I got to go to places that I would normally not go to when visiting Japan”
One memorable comment, I thought, was from a gothic and punk fashion lover who came from Germany with the hopes of connecting with people who have the same taste in fashion as her. She told me,
“This was an excellent event. I was so so happy that I got to talk to others like me in Japan!”
It seemed to me like those who were visiting Japan got to really experience Japanese culture!
For now, it’s undecided of when this event will be hosted next but we have a couple other activities that structured around Lolita fashion! Take a look!
