Details
Nowadays, Japanese pop culture, especially manga, games and anime, attract a lot of attention from all over the world. Through these outlets of culture, a lot of young people abroad are beginning to see and find more of Japan. Even within Japan, Manga, games, and anime have been taken a second look at. Among the greatest people of these genres of culture is the “Eshi” (an animator) who with great finesse draws up illustrations. The name “Eshi” comes from the great “ukiyo” (A word in Buddhism meaning the transient present) artists during the Edo period - making the name “Eshi” something of a status symbol.
In this activity, you can reserve a visit to an art gallery featuring 100 of these world-renowned “Eshi” who capture the hearts of many.
The title of this gallery is “Eshi 100nintenn” (絵師 100人展, meaning a gallery by a 100 Eshis). All of the “Eshis” at this gallery are people who have or are currently producing popular and famous Manga/Anime. For example, “いとうのいぢ” (Itou Noiji) will be there. She is the illustrator for animes such as “涼宮ハルヒ”(Suzumiya Haruhi) – an anime that has sold over sixty thousand copies and has over a million views on youtube. At this gallery, you will be able to experience these new values/illustrations about to captivate Japan – established through the unique eyes, skills, creativity, and potential of these popular “Eshis”.
The theme of this gallery is “The Four Seasons of Japan”, so each “Eshi” illustrated according to what he/she thinks of this theme. There are those who decided to express the beauty found in nature around Japan, the amusement of modern Japan, and the happiness of everyday life in Japan – each “eshi” having their own unique take on the theme. Come and see how these “Eshis” have illustrated “Bishoujyos” (beautiful young girls) and the seasons of Japan.
