Half-day Experience at a Japanese University with a Professor

Details

Do you want to see what it’s like to be a student at a Japanese university? Whether you are interested in studying or teaching in Japan – or just curious about university life in Japan – join me on campus for a tour, experience a class or reading group, and get a glimpse of university life from behind the scenes! The agenda is flexible, and can include the following:

- Campus Tour (Waseda and Toyama campuses)
- Walk the Waseda neighborhood
- Lunch on- or off-campus
- Join a class as a visiting student or “teacher” – just audit, or introduce yourself and speak about your experiences
- Join a reading group
- Get insights on studying or teaching in Japan
- Discuss and ask any questions you may have about life as a foreigner in Japan, teaching, traveling, sightseeing, how to survive and thrive in Japan, etc!

If you have any other ideas, preferences or anything you would like to cover, please let me know in advance so I can prepare accordingly.

I’m looking forward to meeting you!

About the host

Jim

I was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and have lived in Japan since 1976. I teach at Waseda University, where my focus is the American South and its history, culture and literature.

I remember being completely fascinated with Japan when I first arrived in Japan during my graduate studies, when I traveled to almost every part of Japan, seeing and learning as much as I can. I am looking forward to meeting people through FindJPN and being able to be part of the visitors’ experiences in Japan.
