Learn Basic Japanese Cooking

Details

Japanese food has become popular all over the world, but still sushi or noodles dominate the menus of most overseas Japanese restaurants making it very difficult for most to imagine what an average Japanese person eats.

Imagine your own comfort foods back home. There is nothing fancy about a normal Japanese family’s home-cooked meal but that is what makes it special. Take this opportunity to learn about the real Japanese food that is cooked at these family dinners through our cooking classes, an experience that cannot be met by a visit to any great local restaurant.

The first dish you will be making in this program is chirashizushi, a bowl of sushi rice topped with a variety of sashimi and garnishes. The main ingredients for our chirashizushi will be tuna, squid among other fresh sashimi. The second dish is deep fried chicken karaage. It would hard not to include karaage as one of our main dishes because of its popularity in everyday Japanese food. And lastly, tonjiru, a miso based pork soup filled with vegetables is also a staple dish that is hard to beat.

Participants in this program will receive a free oke, a sushi rice mixing bowl, so you will be able to continue making chirashizushi at home.

My name is Megumi Kusunoki, I currently teach cooking classes at a well known school in Japan.

I love cooking very much! I often make my own recipes and enjoy taking photos of the dishes I make and posting them on my blog. I'm interested to know if there are any cooking enthusiasts among the people who visit Japan every year!

In my programs you can experience and learn about original Japanese ingredients, condiments and home cooking. I hope I can help many people to enjoy Real Japanese Food!
